QLK 501 Communication Skills reflection

I have learnt a lot from QLK 501 module. I found it especially useful when we had to prepare a speech and present it in front of our tutor and class. While reviewing the speech on video, I noticed many things which I could improve on, such as my body posture and pronunciation in certain words. This will help me when I start teaching in school next year. When I can present myself better, I believe that students will be more engaged and eager to learn.

In addition, the voice projection online module was also very informative. I learnt how to project my voice loud and clear even without using much effort. From my one year experience in contract teaching, I realised how important voice projection is as a music teacher. I found myself straining my voice uncomfortably especially when singing in front of the school or a class in a noisy environment. However, now I am better informed on how to project my voice when speaking or singing, in order to maintain healthy voice nodules.

Also, the comparison between different ways to write an email or letter was very useful. Before this module, I did not know the difference between signing off with "yours sincerely" or "regards". However, now I am able to discern what to use in a given occasion. I have also learnt that instead of going straight to the point in an email, it is better to first build rapport with the receiver.

On the whole, I found this module enjoyable and educational. I have learnt a lot from this module and I believe that now I am more well-informed on how to carry out good communication which will be highly useful in my teaching career.
